POHLED Z ANGLIE: Stramaccioni potřebuje čas. Sparta se nemůže pořád zabývat přítomností

Čas je to, co chceme nejvíc, ale čeho využíváme nejhůř.

Je tomu sedm let, co Sigma Olomouc naposledy do tribun Androva stadionu na ligový zápas přitáhla více než 11 tisíc lidí. V roce 2010 tehdy obhájci titulu z Letné přijeli a zvítězili díky penaltě z poslední minuty, kterou proměnil Juraj Kucka. Uplynulý víkend, 85 měsíců po tomto říjnovém podvečeru, si na stadion a na střet stejných dvou klubů našel cestu podobný počet diváků. I nyní se dočkali skóre 1:0, jen tentokrát byl vítězný tým jiný. Tentokrát díky upracovanému gólu Martina Sladkého vyhrála Olomouc.

Během sedmi let se toho mezi těmito dvěma zápasy stalo hodně. Život Sigmy Olomouc byl na houpačce, od vrcholů, kdy Hanáci získali první velkou trofej v roce 2012, až po pády na dno při dvou sestupech z první ligy. A bylo v něm i hodně temných kapitol - v roce před vítězstvím v českém poháru byl klub zatažen do korupční aféry, která se datovala až do sezony 2008/09 a která otevřel staré rány v zemi, jež byla postižena už jedním velkým skandálem s úplatky.

Co se týče Sparty, té se dařilo zůstávat na špici tabulky. Trenéři a hráči přicházeli a odcházeli, trofeje se vyhrály i prohrály. Na klub, který považuje druhé místo za pohromu, tu bylo také hodně krizí, ale žádná z nich nebyla ani zdaleka tak katastrofická jako ta, kterou si prožila Sigma.

Ale nezdá se, že je tomu opravdu tak. V klubu, který je tak zvyklý vyhrávat, fanouškovská základna vyžaduje úspěch. A posledních pár let nepřineslo nic jiného než zklamání. Od neschopnosti kvalifikovat se do základní skupiny Ligy mistrů až po to, sledovat Viktorii Plzeň, jak se z ní stává dominantní síla v zemi. Sparťanští příznivci by řekli, že klub prostě už příliš dlouho není na odpovídající úrovni.

Všechno je samozřejmě relativní. Ale jedna věc, která spojuje oba kluby, je to, že oba měly dost času na reflexi. Dalo by se říct, že ať už jsou jejich pozice v českém fotbale odlišné, jak v Praze, tak v Olomouci vidíme velkou zahleděnost do sebe sama a přílišné rozpitvávání svých problémů. Už toho určitě muselo být dost. Po všech těchto letech by si už člověk myslel, že sebepozorování je poslední věc, kterou oba týmy potřebují.

Ale to je přesně to, co Sparta právě teď potřebuje, ať už to bude znít sebevíc hořce pro klubové příznivce i vedení (a nebojme se říct, že i pro hráče). Ovšem jestli Andrea Stramaccioni dostane bianko šek na dobu hájení a přestavby, je úplně odlišná věc, mnozí trenéři byli vyhozeni za menší přečiny.

Ačkoliv je pod tlakem, po víkendové porážce italský trenér jasně uvedl, že potřebuje více času, aby jeho projekt přinesl ovoce. Jeho komentáře se shledaly se značným odporem na sociálních sítích. Ale byly pravdivé. Jak říká známé rčení, Řím se nepostavil během jednoho dne. A tato mnohonárodní verze Sparty také potřebuje více než čtyřiadvacet hodin k tomu, aby vyhrávala tituly.

"Tento tým před dvěma lety sestoupil a je to stejný tým, který dostal čas hrát společně, jako tomu je teď," řekl Stramaccioni o Sigmě. "Klub, hráči a trenér něčemu věří a pracují na tom," dodal.

Není těžké si představit, že bývalý trenér Interu se během zápasu díval závistivě na svého protějška na lavičce Olomouce a přál si, aby měl podporu, kterou dostal Václav Jílek, když zamířil na Moravu na konci roku 2015. Ale jak sám uvedl, ti z velkoklubů si nemohou dovolit takový luxus.

Stramaccioni by měl dostat čas, ale otázkou je, kolik. Ti, kteří mají malé nervy, se budou chtít italského trenéra zbavit raději dříve než později, ti, kteří mají trochu více trpělivosti, si nejspíš počkají do Vánoc. Jenže vzhledem k výdajům a změnám v personálním obsazení si Stramaccioni určitě zaslouží alespoň rok na lavičce. Projekty - a i tato podoba Sparty je projektem - jako tento potřebují čas.

Rozhodnutí nakonec leží na Danielu Křetínském a sparťanském vedení. Pokud už je majitel znuděný přístupem postupně vybudovat z klubu domácího titána na dalších pět až deset let, tak ať. Ale co dál? Další trenéři a prostředníci, kteří potřebují čas, než dokážou vybudovat vlastní styl hry. V jakém bodě se přestanete děsit přítomností a začnete plánovat budoucnost?

Jak prohlásil i William Penn, zakladatel Pensylvánie: "Čas je to, co chceme nejvíc, ale čeho využíváme nejhůř." Nedělní zápas mezi Spartou a Sigmou proti sobě postavil tým, který promrhal čas, proti týmu, který jej použil ke svému užitku. Nebylo tedy překvapení, že Sigma odešla z hřiště vítězná.

Odvrácená strana Olomouce

Ke každému příběhu jsou ale dvě strany. Hodně se toho napsalo o skvělé první polovině sezony ze strany Olomouce a zaslouženě, ale činy některých jejích fanoušků začínají zastiňovat pohádkový příběh klubu.

Na začátku roku skupina "fanoušků" Sigmy rasisticky urážela vlastního hráče, konžského reprezentanta Bidjeho Manziu během druholigového zápasu v Pardubicích. Na začátku listopadu se další skupina "fanoušků" Olomouce postarala o rasiticky motivovaný útok v pražské tramvaji. A v neděli se sparťanský obránce Costa Nhamoniesu musel vypořádávat s rasistickými urážkami. Zimbabwan na incident viditelně upozorňoval i rozhodčího Pavla Královce.

Jsem si jistý, že rasismus v České republice není omezený jen na Olomouc (nezapomínejme, že i sparťanští fanoušci byli potrestáni od UEFA za rasistické urážky), ale proti takovému chování musí být odezva, ať už na jakémkoliv místě.

FAČR musí jít příkladem a jednat rychle a důrazně. Pokud to znamená, že některé tribuny Androva stadionu budou zavřeny na jeden či dva zápasy, nebo bude fanouškům zakázáno jezdit na venkovní zápasy, nebo bude klub muset hrát za zavřenými dveřmi, ať se tak stane.

Potrestáni

"Vytváříme nejlepší možné podmínky pro trenéry i pro hráče. Ale nemohou být odměněni za své výkony proti Plzni, Liberci a Jablonci…"

Jaroslav Tvrdík využil rozšířeného počtu znaků na Twitteru, aby oznámil světu, že hodlá potrestat slávistický A tým za sérii "nepřijatelných" výsledků. Bude to poprvé za dva roky jeho klubového vedení, kdy na kádr uvrhne finanční sankce, a otázkou je, zdali je to nyní v pravý čas.

Je pravda, že Slavia momentálně v lize klopýtá, ale všechno není ztracené. Za týden klub z Edenu přivítá Astanu v zápase o všechno v Evropské lize. Vítěz zápasu mezi českým a kazašským mistrem to dotáhne do vyřazovací fáze soutěže. Je potřeba předtím natolik rozhoupávat loďku?

A VIEW FROM ENGLAND: Stramaccioni does need time. Sparta can't always endlessly on the present

Time is what we want most, but use the worst.

It has been seven years since Sigma Olomouc drew a crowd of over eleven thousand people to the Andrův stadion for a domestic league fixture. That night, back in 2010, saw the then defending champions Sparta Prague emerge victorious, thanks to a last-minute penalty from Juraj Kucka. This past weekend, 85 months on from that early October evening, a similar number of people converged on the stadium to see the same two teams take to the field once again. There was the same 1-0 scoreline, though this time the winning side was different: This time, thanks to a scrappy goal from Martin Sladký, Sigma Olomouc emerged victorious.

In the seven years between those two games, a lot has happened. Sigma Olomouc's existence has been a rollercoaster ride, ranging from the highs of claiming their first major trophy in 2012 to the lows of experience relegation from the top flight on two separate occasions. There has been the murky too, lest we forget. A year before their Czech Cup victory, the club was implicated in a match-fixing and bribery scandal that dated back to the 2008-09 season, opening up old wounds in a country that had been beset by scandal and backhanders.

As for Sparta, the Prague side has managed to stay towards the top of the table. Managers and players have come and gone; trophies have been lost and won. For a side that sees a second-placed finish as being a disaster, there has been many a year of crisis too. But nothing that has been as catastrophic as what Sigma Olomouc has experienced, not by any means.

But it doesn't feel that way. For a club so accustomed to winning, its fan base demands success. These past few years have brought nothing but disappointment. From failing to qualify for the Champions League Group Stages to watching Viktoria Plzeň emerge as the dominant force in the country, supporters would say that they have not been good enough for far too long.

Everything, of course, is relative. Though one thing that binds the two cubs together is that time that they have had for reflection. No matter their station or standing in the game, there has been plenty of navel-gazing in the cities of Prague and Olomouc. Surely, there has been enough? After all these years, you would think that more time for introspection is the last thing that either football team needs.

Yet time is exactly what Sparta need right now, as unpalatable as that will sound to the club's supporters and hierarchy (and dare we say it, the players too). Though whether Andrea Stramaccioni will receive a carte blanche period of transition is another thing entirely; many managers have been fired for less.

In the aftermath of their defeat at the weekend, the under-pressure Italian made it crystal clear that he needed more time to see his project bear fruit. His comments were met with derision online. But they were the truth. As the saying goes, Rome was not built in a day. And this multinational version of Sparta Prague will certainly need more than twenty-four hours to start winning titles.

"This team came down two years ago and it's the same team that got the time to play together as they do now," Stramaccioni said of Sigma Olomouc. "The club, the players and the coach believe something and work on it."

It is hard not to imagine the former Internazionale manager looking longingly at his counterpart in the Sigma dugout during the game and wishing for the support that Václav Jílek has received since moving to Moravia in 2015. But as he noted to the press, those at the big clubs are not afforded such a luxury.

He should be given time, though the question now is how much. Those with knee-jerk dispositions will want the Italian removed from his position sooner rather than later; those with slightly more patience will likely wait until Christmas. However, given the outlay and the turnover in personnel during the summer, surely Stramaccioni warrants at least twelve months in charge. Projects - and this iteration of Sparta Prague is a project - like this need time. Repeat after me ad infinitum, Rome wasn’t built in a day...

Ultimately, the decision lies with Daniel Křetínský and the Sparta board. If he has got bored with this approach to building the club up to become a domestic juggernaut for the next five or even ten years, then so be it. But what next? More managers and middlemen pleading for more time to install their way of playing. At what point do you stop fretting at the present and begin to plan for the future?

As William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania said: "Time is what we want most, but use the worst." Sunday's game between Sparta Prague and Sigma Olomouc not only pitted the league's underachievers against the league's overachievers; it pitted the club that has wasted time against the club that has used it to its advantage. It was no surprise, therefore, that Sigma walked away victorious.

The dark side of Sigma Olomouc

There are two sides to every story. Much has been written about Sigma Olomouc's outstanding first half of the league season and deservedly so, but the actions of some sections of their support is starting to overshadow the club's fairytale story.

Earlier this year, a group of Sigma ‘fans' racially abused their own player, the Congolese international, Bidje Manzia, during a second division game in Pardubice. Earlier this month, it was reported that another group of Sigma ‘fans' were involved in a racially motivated assault on a tram in Prague. And on Sunday, Sparta Prague's Costa Nhamoniesu was subjected to racist abuse, with the Zimbabwean clearly shown on television reporting the incident to the match referee, Pavel Kralovec.

Now, I'm sure that racism in the Czech Republic is not solely confined to the city of Olomouc (let's not forget Sparta's fans were charged by UEFA for such an offence), but there needs to be a stand against this kind of behaviour, no matter where it takes place.

The Czech FA must lead by example and act swiftly and decisively. If that means closing sections of the Andrův stadion down for a game or two, the banning of them travelling as away fans or forcing the club to play behind closed doors, then so be it.

Fined

Jaroslav Tvrdík made good use of Twitter’s extended character limit to inform the world that he intends to fine Slavia’s first-team for a string of ‘unacceptable’ results. It will be the first time in two years that the červenobíl’s management has imposed financial sanctions on the squad and it begs the question, is now the time?

Admittedly, Slavia are sluggish in the league at the moment but all is not lost. In a week’s time, the Eden club will welcome Astana to Prague in a do-or-die Europa League game. The winners of the clash between the Czech and Kazakh champions will make it into the knockout stages of the competition. Do you really need to rock the boat before that?
